HOW PDLC SMART GLASS WORKS
The operating physics of PDLC technology rely on the electrical alignment of microscopic liquid crystal droplets encapsulated within a solid polymer matrix between two transparent conductive polyester (ITO) films.
- Zero Voltage (0V): Without an active electric field, liquid crystal molecules are oriented randomly and chaotically within the polymer micro-droplets.
- Total Visual Privacy: The refractive index of the polymer matrix differs from the liquid crystals, refracting and scattering light rays in every direction. Direct view is 100% blocked.
- Soft Diffuse Daylight: While direct through-vision is obstructed, 55% to 60% of natural daylight still penetrates as a soft, ambient glow.
- Voltage Application (48V AC): When energized, the electric field induces an instantaneous dipole moment, forcing all liquid crystal molecules to align in parallel.
- Crystal Transparency (< 10 ms): In aligned position, the refractive indices of the liquid crystals and polymer matrix match precisely, allowing light to pass unobstructed.
- Cutting-Edge Optical Clarity: Ultra-low haze (< 2.5%), completely eliminating the milky haze characteristic of older-generation PDLC films.
Maximum Security Multi-Layer Construction
ADPI PDLC glass is engineered as a 5-layer laminated safety glass assembled in cleanroom vacuum autoclaves, ensuring extreme durability, moisture barrier protection, and structural integrity.
